  1. That is some beautiful corn!! What is it, and how long have you been growing it on your place?

  2. This is a variety of flour corn called Painted Mountain. It was bred under high altitude conditions in Montana for good cold soil emergence and early ripening. Ironically the high altitude conditions for which it was bred are similar to those that we experience here in the maritime climate of the Pacific Northwest. We have cold wet springs followed by cool summers yet this corn will usually dry down on the stalk. It makes excellent pancakes and cornbread. The pigs and chickens also relish it. I have been growing it for about 10 years now.
